After 23 years in the home construction business, Bill Ockenden established his own company, WAO Builders, about a year ago. And Ockenden wasted little time in establishing himself as an industry leader.
He serves as the Vice Chairman of the Remodelers Council of the Home Builders Association of Metro Orlando and is a member of the Green Building Coalition, the National Association of Home Builders, the Florida Home Builders Association, the National Aging in Place Council and the Better Business Bureau.
WAO Builders is a design/build firm specializing in remodeling and new construction with a focus on building safe and healthy homes. The company also uses the latest energy conservation and aging- in-place technologies.
“The owner’s lifestyle and stage of life are integrated into every project,” says Ockenden. “I like to call this ‘Smart Home Designs.’” WAO’s commitment to excellence is reflected through the relationships it builds with its clients. The company’s statement of purpose says it all: “To Build Lasting Relationships Through Honest Communication and Quality Craftsmanship.” Craftsmanship, in fact, is second nature to Ockenden, who grew up in the Amish Country of southeastern Pennsylvania and still enjoys woodworking. “I was surrounded by and exposed to amazing craftsmen,” he says. “As a result, since childhood I’ve wanted to be a carpenter.”
Today, Ockenden’s company handles everything from basic room remodels to multi-million dollar whole-house projects and spectacular new custom homes. When choosing a remodeler, Ockenden says, check references, licenses and consider how committed the remodeler is to his or her industry. “Also, consider the remodeler’s commitment to you,” he adds. “I always recommend clients find contractors who’ll stand behind their proposals and agree to firm contract prices.” |
